ESR (PhD student)
The early stage researcher will be working with the experienced researcher advertised above on myopia and other common eye disease genetics. Applicants with ophthalmology, optometry, molecular biology or statistics backgrounds are welcome to apply, and will be learning skills related to molecular genetic techniques, including DNA extraction, phenotyping, linkage studies, selection of SNPs and candidate genes, association studies and statistical analysis of large-scale genetic projects, as well as analysis of data from epidemiological studies. At the end of the 3 year PhD project, the researcher will be versed in the latest genetic epidemiology techniques.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate for an18 month period within the Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology Unit, King’s College London, which is based at St. Thomas’ Hospital
Our unit of around 40 staff researches a wide range of chronic diseases using our cohort of around 10,000 UK Twins, details of which are available on our website www.twinsUK.ac.
The Research Associate will be involved with the daily twin visits on a specific basis, e.g. taking responsibility for a designated number of tests. The post holders will also be involved in the statistical analysis of the phenotypic data collected during the twin visit. The Research Associate role requires a PhD plus experience of genetic analysis for a minimum of 2 years. Ref: W1/MGE/227/07-KW
Salary will be between £24,839 - £30,891 per annum pro rata, plus £2,323 London Weighting, depending on experience.

Senior Lecturer (Clinical or Non-Clinical) in Genetic Epidemiology

Applications are invited for a Senior Lecturer in the Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology Unit, within the Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine on the St. Thomas’ Campus to study the genetics of complex traits.
Applicants are sought to join a team with an international track record of research using the UK Twin registry. We are seeking an individual who wishes to make a substantial contribution to expand our research portfolio in the genetics of common complex traits. Our focus is currently on Metabolic diseases, Cardiovascular disease, Locomotor and Aging using a Genome-wide scan on over 6000 twins.
We are seeking individuals with a relevant higher degree such as MD or PhD background and research experience, in particular genetics and/or epidemiology. The applicant must have a proven track record of research, demonstrated by completion of previous projects and high quality publications. Previous teaching experience is essential.
This post is initially available for 5 years on a Senior Lecturer grade. Salary will be in the range of £41,451 - £46,987 per annum plus £2,323 London Weighting for non-clinical applicants and from £71,822 per annum plus £2,162 Inner London Weighting for clinical applicants, depending on experience. Clinicians would be expected to have an Honorary Consultant contract with the NHS trust
